We attempt to maintain a healthy, chemical-free environment for all our guests including those who have allergy and asthma conditions, Multiple Chemical Sensitivity or Environmental Illness. As a partner in the Green Hotels Association, we are committed to conserving water, energy and reducing waste.

Our efforts to maintain a healthy environment and our commitment to conservation do not reduce the quality and high standards expected by our guests. The following describes some of our efforts to ensure that our guests have a valuable, relaxing and healthy stay.

  • There are no pets and no smoking.
  • No strong-scented or aerosol cleaning products are used.
  • No room deodorizers are used.
  • Bed linens include cotton-polyester or 100% cotton sheets, wool or Vellux blankets, and locally-made quilts made of cotton/polyester or 100% cotton with polyester batting. Pillows are hypo-allergenic.
  • Air-conditioning and Hepa (or near Hepa quality) filters in our vacuum cleaners help maintain quality air indoors. We also have a portable Hepa room filter, which may be used by our guests.
  • Our dining room floor and two guest room floors are hard wood.
  • As a rule we use hormone-free eggs and milk from local farms and try to use fruits, which are organic or have been minimally sprayed. We do our best to accommodate special diets with prior notice.
  • We encourage guests to reuse lightly used bath towels, hand towels and washcloths to conserve water and energy.
  • We avoid using containers that cannot be recycled or reused to reduce waste.
  • We use timers on supplemental lighting and low-energy consuming appliances to conserve energy.

Disclaimer: The Walnut Lawn Bed and Breakfast is not 'perfect' in maintaining a healthy, chemical-free environment for all our guests and we are not ‘perfect’ in conserving water, energy and reducing waste but we will continue to improve and expand these efforts for the health and enjoyment of our guests.
